Scholarships


The College of Arts and Sciences awards several scholarships each academic year. These one-year awards range in value from $500 to $1,000. Descriptions of the scholarships appear below.

The basic eligibility and judging criteria are the same for each scholarship, but some of the awards are targeted to specialized populations. See below for details. Note that filling out one application will ensure you are considered for all scholarships for which you qualify.

Eligibility:
Applicants must now be classified as undergraduate students in the College of A&S and must enroll full-time for both the fall and spring semesters of the next academic year.
Applicants must have earned from 30 to 110 semester hours of credit as of the beginning of this spring semester and should not be planning to graduate before next spring semester.
The recipients must have at least a 3.4 GPA, both overall and in the LSU system, unless otherwise indicated.

College of Arts and Sciences Scholarships for 2007-2008

LSU Athletic Department Endowed Scholarship (amount and number vary)

An award is given annually to help a student reach his or her academic goals. The endowment generating the money for this scholarship was established by the LSU Department of Athletics for an individual enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Barbara Sims Newsletter Scholarship (amount and number vary)

An award is given to a student in the College who has made consistent academic progress. The money is provided by individual contributions solicited through the A&S Newsletter.

A & S Advisory Council Scholarship (amount and number vary)

Awards are given to students in the College who have made consistent academic progress. The money is provided by gifts from the members of the Arts and Sciences Advisory Council.

Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship (amount and number vary)

Awards are given to students in the College who have made consistent academic progress. The money is provided by the Tiger Athletic Foundation.

George Warren Bofinger Endowed Scholarship (amount and number vary)

An award given to a student who has at least a 3.5 GPA. Financial need shall be a consideration. The endowment generating the money for this scholarship was established by Roger M. and Barbara S. Bofinger in memory of George.

Elise S. and Charles E. Kaufman Endowed Scholarship (amount and number vary)

An award given to a student in the College of Arts and Sciences. First preference for recipient selection is a continuing Honors College student.

Karl and Sue Roider Undergraduate Scholarship (amount and number vary)

Awards are given to students in the College who have made consistent academic progress. The money is provided by gifts from the members of the Arts and Sciences Advisory Council in honor of the Roiders.

George C. and Merrit D. Betts Endowed Scholarship (amount and number vary)

An award that can range from $500 to $1,000 annually. Recipients must be nonresidents of Louisiana but citizens of the United States. They must also have at least a 3.5 GPA.

Herbert Huey McElveen Endowed Scholarship (amount and number vary)

An award that can range from $500 to $1,000 annually, this scholarship is given to students in the College who have made consistent academic progress.

Roddy Richard General Studies Endowed Scholarship (amount and number vary)

An award that can range from $500 to $1,000 annually, this scholarship, which honors the memory of Roddy Richard, a former SGA President and student in General Studies, is awarded to a General Studies major with at least a 3.0 GPA.
