Undergraduate Scholarships Awarded

The History Department has awarded scholarships to five outstanding majors: Allison C. Bass, Jessica Byrd, Kristin Irvin, Samuel M. Oliver and Brittany Pennington.  Five students were also chosen for membership in Phi Beta Kappa.  For details, see News and Notes.

Recognition for Teaching and Research

Professor Maribel Dietz was chosen to receive the  BP Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching for 2008.

The Board of Regents has chosen Professors Paul Paskoff and Reza Pirbhai to receive Atlas Grants during the 2008-2009 academic year.  This follows the selection of two other History faculty members, Christine Kooi and Margherita Zanasi, for Atlas grants during 2007-2008.

NEW GRADUATE MINOR FIELD

With World History increasingly in demand as a subject to be taught at the university level, and with the increasing breadth of the department's regional offerings, a new graduate Minor Field in World History is being introduced. Requirements include a seminar in Comparative History, three other courses and an oral examination.  Click Graduate Studies  for more information about the Graduate program.

New courses, Fall 2008

Courses  for Fall 2008 include a full set of undergraduate seminars, and courses on War in Western Society, West African History, and a new course on Intercollegiate Athletics taught by System President John Lombardi.  For a list of 3000 and 4000-level offerings,  click here.
